Community forming near Pittsboro
Sunday, November 20th from 4:00-6:00 PM at 266 Granite Springs Road, Pittsboro, NC
You are invited to attend a meeting about Granite Springs Farm, a great conservation community! This meeting follows the first programming meeting held in July of this year. Since that time we have been working to assess the site and develop a concept plan for an agrarian community. That plan will be shared at this meeting. We need and welcome your input regarding this concept plan.
The 140-acre site is just north of Pittsboro, NC on NC 87, is currently owned and managed by Meredith Leight, and is the site of Meredith’s home and her CSA farm. The proposed concept is a conservation farm community in which the majority of the site will remain in open space and working farm. The current plan offers two clusters of cottages; about 10-15 units in each. The owners of each home will share in ownership and use of a spacious beautiful existing home which is intended to become a common house and used for meetings, gathering, agritourism, education, events, lodging, etc., a true community center. Additionally, they will also own a share of the common land area of the project, the extent of which is in the planning stage.
The community is intended for those who desire to reconnect to the earth and to one another in an engaged, healthy, authentic community centered on stewardship of the land. An artful and mutually supporting community, comprised of smaller green cottages located within the larger farm where locally grown, healthy food is produced, the remaining site is sustainably managed, all within a site that reflects the conservation ethic, are the over-arching goals for the project.
An additional component of the site plan is a cluster of very small eco-cottages for on-farm interns, workers, and agritourism guests. These will be located adjacent to the existing farm operation.
Meredith Leight, farm owner, along with Mike Ortosky of The Earthwise Company (community & agricultural development www.earthwiselife.com ) will present the overall concept for your consideration and feedback.
We would greatly appreciate your attendance and input as we move forward with this genuine conservation community concept.
Please let us know if you can attend by responding to Mike Ortosky mortosky@earthwiselife.com or Meredith Leight at mleight@mac.com
